Cheap Junk Removal San Diego
By Fred Siegel, Fred’s Junk Removal · North Park 92104
Cheap junk removal in San Diego is a real number, not a slogan. This guide is the posted math Fred’s Junk Removal uses every day: what $69 actually covers, why curbside is cheaper than full-service, how mattresses, couches, and appliances are priced, when a truck-load tier beats item rates, what dump fees do (and do not) add, and when a “cheap” hauler or a dumpster costs more than a dump truck.
Fred Siegel has run this crew for 21 years and more than 50,000 jobs. We are locally owned and veteran owned. We quote from photos. The quote you accept is the amount you pay.
What cheap junk removal actually costs
In San Diego County, a licensed junk hauler still pays labor, fuel, landfill or transfer-station fees, and recycling. Those costs do not disappear because an ad says “cheap.” They either sit in a posted rate or they show up later as fuel, stairs, heavy-item, or dump surcharges.
Fred’s cheapest legitimate job is $69 curbside: one item or a small load under 200 lbs, staged at a drive-up location. Two bulky pieces are usually $119. Full-service for one item starts at $130 because we carry it from inside, upstairs, or the yard. Mixed piles are priced by how much of the dump bed they fill — posted truck tiers from $69 to $599 curbside ($130 to $899 full-service).
That range is cheap junk removal San Diego that still includes dump fees. It is not an hourly clock, and it is not a “from $99” franchise teaser.
Fred’s $69 starting option
The $69 starting option is Tier 1 curbside. Capacity is up to about 2 cubic yards or 200 lbs. Good for:
- One mattress or one box spring
- One couch up to a 3-seater
- One washer, dryer, fridge, or similar appliance
- A dresser, desk, or recliner
- 1–5 bags or boxes that stay under 200 lbs
If you can roll or carry the piece to the driveway, garage, or alley, you keep $69. If we have to walk it out of a bedroom, down stairs, or across a backyard, it is full-service from $130 — same haul, more labor. See the price list for the full item table.
Curbside vs full-service
Every Fred’s job is one of two options:
- Curbside: you stage the junk at a drive-up spot — driveway, residential garage, or alley. We load the truck. You do not have to be home.
- Full-service: you point, we carry. Inside the house, second floor, backyard, side yard. Floors and walls get protected. That labor is in the full-service price, not an “extra man” surprise.
A queen mattress is $69 curbside and $130 from the bedroom. That is more than 30% off for the same dump-truck ride. Cheap junk removal is usually just choosing curbside when you can.
Why curbside costs less
Curbside costs less because you save us time and bodies. A two-person carry down a narrow North Park stairwell is a different job than sliding a sofa off a driveway into a dump bed. We pass that labor back as the posted $69–$119 rates instead of padding every quote “just in case.”
You also save us the walk-through. National call-center haulers still send someone to measure the pile, then add stairs after they see them. If you stage it, we already know the access. Photos of the pile and the path out keep the estimate honest.
Examples of common items
These are the jobs we price every week in North Park (92104) and across San Diego County:
- Single bulky piece at the curb: $69
- Two bulky pieces (mattress + box, washer + dryer, couch + chair): $119
- Three named pieces: usually $179 (Tier 3)
- A bedroom set (mattress, box, frame, dresser): often $179–$299 depending on access and photos
- A packed one-car garage: often a mid truck tier, quoted from photos
Hot tubs, pianos, and pool tables are custom. Text a photo. We will tell you if it rides.
Mattress pricing
One mattress or one box spring is $69 curbside. Two pieces (mattress and box, or two mattresses) are $119. Full-service for one mattress starts at $130 when we carry it off the frame, down the hall, or down stairs. A king counts as one piece. Twins are often half a piece on the calculator. We recycle coils, foam, and wood through California mattress recycling whenever the plant will take the unit. Light stains are fine; wet or infested beds need photos first. Details: mattress removal and cheap mattress removal.
Couch pricing
A standard 3-seat sofa or loveseat is $69 curbside and $130 full-service. A two-piece sectional is $119 curbside. Recliners, sofa chairs, and futons price as single items when they sit at a drive-up spot. Usable couches go to donation partners when they can still serve someone. See couch removal and the sofa-type pages for 3-seat, sectional, recliner, hide-a-bed, and chaise rates.
Appliance pricing
One refrigerator, washer, dryer, stove, or similar appliance is $69 curbside. Full-service — carried from the kitchen, laundry, or back yard — starts at $130. Washer and dryer together are two pieces ($119 curbside). We pull scrap metal and recycle what the stream will take. Fridges should be empty. Appliance removal has the table.
Small-load pricing
Bags, boxes, and a couple of small pieces stay on $69 when the whole load is under 200 lbs and staged curbside. That is the load that looks like a hatchback run to the dump — except you do not rent a truck, wait in the scale line, or lift it twice. If the pile grows past 200 lbs or past about 2 cubic yards, it moves to the next truck tier. Photos keep you on the right rate.
Truck-load pricing
Mixed garage, moving, and remodel piles are easier to price by how much of the dump bed they fill. Posted curbside tiers:
| Tier | About | Curbside | Full-service |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Up to 2 cu yd / 200 lbs | $69 | $130 |
| 2 | Up to 4 cu yd / 400 lbs | $119 | $180 |
| 3 | Up to 6 cu yd / 600 lbs | $179 | $270 |
| 4 | Up to 8 cu yd / 800 lbs | $239 | $360 |
| 5 | Up to 10 cu yd / 1,000 lbs | $299 | $450 |
| 6 | Up to 12 cu yd / 1,200 lbs | $359 | $540 |
| 7 | Up to 14 cu yd / 1,400 lbs | $419 | $630 |
| 8 | Up to 16 cu yd / 1,600 lbs | $479 | $720 |
| 9 | Up to 18 cu yd / 1,800 lbs | $539 | $810 |
| 10 | Up to 20 cu yd / 2,000 lbs | $599 | $899 |
Dense construction debris and heavy yard waste can weigh out before they fill the bed. Photos catch that. Full truck-load notes: truck loads.
What affects price
- Access. Driveway vs. second floor is the biggest swing (curbside vs full-service).
- Volume. How much of the dump bed the pile uses.
- Weight. Dirt, concrete, tile, and wet debris hit weight caps faster than sofas.
- Item count. A few named bulky pieces often price cheaper as items than as a mixed truck tier.
- What it is. Hazardous paint, fuel, and chemicals do not ride. Hot tubs and pianos are custom.
- How you stage it. One photoset, one trip, one quote. Three separate bookings cost more than one mixed load.
Dump and disposal fees
San Diego transfer stations and landfills charge by the load. California mattress recycling has its own stream. Scrap metal and e-waste go through recyclers, not household trash. Fred’s posted rates already include dump and disposal fees for ordinary household junk. We do not add a scale-house line after the job if the pile matched the photos.
Illegal dumping is not a discount. Leaving a mattress in an alley is a city citation. A cash guy who “knows a spot” is how canyons get dumped. Cheap junk removal that is legal still pays the dump. We just put that fee in the $69 instead of surprising you with it.
Comparison with dumpster rental
A dumpster looks cheap until you add delivery, pickup, days on the driveway, overweight fees, and the fact that you still load it. Narrow North Park and Hillcrest streets often cannot keep a box at the curb without a permit headache. You pay for empty air if you oversize the bin, and you pay again if you undersize it and need a second haul.
Fred’s dump truck prices the space you actually use. One sofa is $69, not a week of dumpster rent. A packed garage is a mid or high truck tier quoted from photos, loaded by our crew, gone the same window. For one to ten named items, skip the bin and use the calculator. For a multi-day remodel with a contractor on site, a dumpster can still make sense — compare both before you book either.
How to get the lowest legitimate price
- Stage everything at a drive-up location: driveway, garage, or alley.
- Put the whole job in one pile so we quote one trip.
- Text clear photos of the pile and the path out — (619) 245-9957.
- Or tap items in the Junk Removal Cost Calculator for an instant tier.
- Compare that number to the price list. Item rates beat a truck tier when you only have a couple of pieces.
- Accept the quote. That is the invoice. Card, cash, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or Cash App when we finish.
That is how you get cheap junk removal San Diego without a coupon code that dies at the stairs.
When cheap isn’t actually cheap
Hourly haulers look cheap until the dump line is long. National franchises look cheap until fuel, stairs, and “heavy item” fees land. A pickup-truck guy looks cheap until he cannot take the mattress legally or needs a second trip you pay for. A dumpster looks cheap until overweight and pickup fees hit.
If the quote has no dump fee, no address, and no photos, you are not buying cheap junk removal. You are buying a risk. Fred’s posts the rate, runs a dump truck, recycles when we can, and sweeps the load-out path. That is the cheap that still works in 21 years of San Diego jobs.
Quote calculator
The Junk Removal Cost Calculator is the same math we quote from. Add 1–10 named items — mattresses, couches, appliances, bags — and it returns a truck tier with a Book now link. For mixed garage piles, photos still beat a guess: text the pictures and we map them to the same tiers.
